Eating on a Budget

Do we really like to hear the word budget?

The mere mention of the word sends shock waves of fear and trepidation. And mention it in regards to eating and people break into a cold sweat.

One day, a microbiologist named Beth decided the taste of food did not have to be  scarified when budgeting her hard earned money. She viewed her kitchen as a budgeting frontier needing to be conquered without boring the taste buds to death.

Low and behold, the website Budget Bytes was born. One may search for recipes by categories such as meat, pasta or vegetarian. For those putting in long hours at work (which is most of us), there is even a slow cooker or crock-pot category.

Each recipe is laid out in an easy to follow format: The estimated cost per meal, serving size, and preparation time for each recipe. Cooking is truly a challenge for me. So I find the pictures for each step of the preparation helpful  in keeping me on track.

The first step in changing one’s lifestyle is changing one’s mindset. Words only have power over you if you give them the power. So the next time someone asks, “How do you eat on a budget?” You can reply, “Very tastefully. Thank you.”

Knowledge is power. The more knowledge you have about eating on a budget, the more power you will have to save your hard earned cash.
